Chilliwack home destroyed in fire, family safe but two cats killed

CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) — A family in Chilliwack is safe after they escaped a devastating fire that destroyed their home Saturday morning

Fire crews were called South Sumas Road near Vedder Road around 9:30 a.m., and found a two-storey home fully engulfed in flames. They were able to keep the fire from spreading to other buildings, but two pickup trucks parked beside the garage were also destroyed.

Two cats were killed but a father and his two teen sons were able to get out; the man suffered from minor smoke inhalation and a minor burn on one arm. No firefighters were injured.

The Chilliwack Fire Department believe the fire was an accident, but say there is still an investigation into the cause.
