Plane crashes into Okanagan Lake

WEST KELOWNA (NEWS 1130) — Two people have been sent to hospital after a small plane crashed into Okanagan Lake.

It happened near the Sunnyside area of West Kelowna Monday afternoon.

Caeli Turner with BC Emergency Health Services confirms paramedics received a call around 5 p.m. about a small plane crashing into the water.

“B.C. Ambulance received a call around 5 o’clock this afternoon about a small plane that had crashed into the Okanagan Lake in the West Kelowna area near Sunnyside,” she says.

“Our paramedics arrived to the scene and there were two patients that were transported by ambulance to hospital but in stable condition.”

Local news outlet Castanet reports the aircraft is an amphibious Icon A5 and is capable of landing on air or water. Police told Castanet the plane crashed during a “wheels down” landing and the plane “nosed over” when the wheels hit the water.
