Tanker truck crashes, catches fire near Dawson Creek B.C.

DAWSON CREEK (NEWS 1130) — An oil tanker truck crashed and caught fire just east of the northern B.C. city of Dawson Creek Saturday afternoon.
It happened just before 2 p.m. when the truck was crossing the Pouce Coupe bridge.
Oil has spilled onto the bridge and into the Pouce Coupe river near the accident where an environmental contractor is trying to absorb some of the spill.
An Environmental Emergency Response Officer has been sent to assess the extent of the spill and make a plan for cleanup.

The driver has been taken to hospital, but there is no word on their condition yet.
“The truck and trailer were mostly consumed by the fire. The bridge is closed until further notice. An engineer will assess and certify the bridge is safe for operation before it is re-opened,” according to BC’s Environmental Emergency Program.
