Fire destroys auto-salvage facility in Bridgeview area of Surrey

SURREY (NEWS 1130) — An auto-salvage facility in Surrey’s Bridgeview area has been completely destroyed by fire.

Crews were called to the area of 116th Avenue and 132B Street around 2 p.m. Thursday.

“It was fully involved, it was about a thousand square foot building,” says Assistant Chief David Burns, adding two dozen firefighters and eight vehicles were sent to fight the fire.

He says it was contained in under an hour and estimates crews will wrap up their efforts by 4 p.m.

“The building is completely destroyed, based on the reports from the crews on scene,” Burns says. “There’re no injuries at this time.”

He says the area isn’t heavily travelled and the cause of the blaze hasn’t been determined.

“There were no exposures for the crews and there’s no concern of this fire spreading.”
