Expert: More danger than ever for women involved with gangs

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There is now more danger than ever for women involved in the gang lifestyle.  According to one expert, women are no longer off-limits when it comes to gang retaliation.

Shinder Kirk with the RCMP’s Integrated Gang Task Force says women are actively involved in gangs, but he has a warning for girlfriends, wives and female gang members.  “The paradigm that may have existed, whether it was unwritten or written where women and spouses were off-limits is now changed.  You could very well be put at risk.”  Kirk doesn’t specify when the change happened or why but adds women who date or associate with gang members face as much danger as those actually in the gangs.

The shooting death of 23-year-old Nicole Alemy, who was shot in her car while driving with her son in Surrey last February, is just one example of women being targeted.
