Four alcohol-related charges laid against Vancouver Mountie

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A local Mountie arrested twice by Vancouver Police has now been formally charged.  Constable Vernon Wilson is in court for nine separate offences including impaired driving causing bodily harm.

Constable Jana McGuinness says eight charges are in relation to an accident at the foot of the Second Narrows Bridge in October.  “Two counts of dangerous driving, two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm, two counts of causing an accident resulting in bodily harm, impaired driving, and driving over .08.”  In connection with a separate incident in November, Wilson is charged with driving while prohibited.

RCMP constable Annie Linteau says Wilson has been suspended with pay since November and his pay status is under review while an internal investigation takes place.

She says you should still trust the Mounties despite his legal troubles.  “We do have 6,000 members in this province who really do good police work every single day.”  Linteau says the internal review will take place after Wilson has finished with his criminal proceedings.
