Family travels to India for liver transplant surgery

BURNABY (NEWS1130) – After waiting months for a liver to save his son, a Burnaby father says he took matters into his own hands and contacted a doctor in India to perform the life saving surgery there.

Shameem Chowdhury, 21, recently had the liver transplant with his 18 year old sister being the live donor. The two are said to be in good condition and the family is expected to return to Vancouver on January 17th.

The Chowdhurys have criticized the BC Transplant Society for being too slow in finding a donor to save the UBC student, even though he was at the top of the list.

The transplant society has told News1130 live donor operations can be dangerous and difficult
