Five coordinated grow-ops busted in Surrey

SURREY (NEWS1130) – RCMP in Surrey have arrested 12 people following five coordinated grow-op busts early this morning.  Police have been dismantling the operations, and estimate the street value of the drugs is tens of  thousands of dollars.

RCMP Sergeant Roger Morrow says it is possible the grow-ops are linked to our region’s notable gangs, and police have a warning for criminals: We’re coming after your drugs, and your homes.  “Certainly for those that are involved in…or even considering drugs as a way of life…think about this–we have now got five homes that we’re going to be hopefully getting forfeited to the Crown, and some of these homes are likely worth half a million dollars.”

RCMP say their investigation began in November 2009.  Grow-ops were located in three of the five homes.  One had an estimated 2,000 plants. In a second home (which also contained a grow-op), investigators found a large number of green garbage bags containing marijuana in half pound bags each with an estimated street value of between $1,000 & $1,200.

RCMP say one of the homes belonged to a mother and father, while a home next door is owned by their son.  Both contained illegal grow-ops.  Many of the homes were also involved in grow-op busts in the past.
