Road closures and travel warnings are part of the countdown to the Games

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Four weeks to go and today the first real batch of Olympics road closures takes effect while a home-grown warning has been issued to Americans coming to the games.

The U.S. State Department is concerned heightened security at Olympic venues leaves places like hotels and restaurants more vulnerable to the possibility of terror attacks. So it has issued an information sheet for U.S. travellers which recommends they stay away from public protest and remain on alert at all times.

We have reaction from one American businessman in Vancouver, “I think since 9-11, it has become somewhat commonplace for Americans to be prepared a little bit more. But I do agree it is a little over cautious.”

Timing is everything. The first wave of road closures around the Olympic village is security-related. You’ll have to plan around sections of Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec streets.  To find more information regarding the closures, head to our traffic section.
