Olympic torch on a trip through Calgary

By

The Olympic flame is once again burning bright in Calgary.

After last night’s triumphant return of the flame to the city, the relay leaves Olympic Plaza at 7 a.m. and sets off down Stephen Avenue on it’s way to the University of Calgary’s Olympic Oval.

Former Olympian Susan Auch will be on hand to greet the torch at the Oval. She’ll take it for a short spin around the ice, and then pass it off to up and coming skater Kyle Yoshida.

Yoshida says it’s a big honour to carry the flame.

“I really appreciate the opportunity to be there with past Canadian Olympians and Olympic champions and just be humbled by the whole scene of it all,” says Yoshida.

After leaving the city this afternoon, the torch will go to Chestermere, Strathmore and Airdrie.

But not to worry, it will return to the city tomorrow for a big send off from Canada Olympic Park as it makes it’s way on a trek through the Rock Mountains.
