Text-ed for teens irresponsibly using their cell phones

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Texting has become second-nature for many teens.  But it turns out some of the content of those texts is probably not appropriate. Forget sex-ed, some Canadian students will soon be educated in the ways of text messaging in “text-ed”.

The program from the Canadian Centre for Child Protection will start as a pilot project in 100 Grade seven classes across Canada and in September it will likely go country-wide.  As well, texted.ca has launched today. It offers up educational information on the risks of text messaging.

Anecdotal information from schools and police indicate there has been a significant increase in young people’s mobile device usage bordering on the illegal. A recent survey for LG found 22 percent of teens claim to have received a naked picture on their cell phone.
