Four arrested after tombstone stuffed with opium

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Four people are behind bars after a huge opium bust earlier this month.  It began January 6th when customs workers at YVR discovered a secret compartment in a tombstone being brought in from Iran.  Inside they found almost 57 kilos of opium.

A week later police showed up at a house in Coquitlam where the tombstone was supposed to be delivered, a 39-year old woman was arrested, while her 48-year-old husband turned himself in later that evening.

A 51-year-old North Vancouver man who rents a space at the home was also arrested a few days later.  The man’s 55-year-old brother was taken into custody four days after that.

Charges of importing a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking will be recommended.
