SURREY (NEWS1130) – A 46-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Surrey early Saturday morning and several people have been arrested. Around 3 a.m. RCMP officers were called to an apartment building on 71st Avenue and 134th Street,  near 72nd Avenue and King George Highway. Once in, they found the victim in the elevator.

Inspector Dave Attfield is not saying how the victim, who is known to police, was killed.  “There’s no indication at this early stage that it’s gang-related.  We do believe that some of the people involved are connected to street level crime in the area.  It’s likely that person who did this was known to the victim.”

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has now taken over the case.

Meanwhile, Mounties in Maple Ridge are investigating a shooting that took place early Saturday morning.  Around 12:30 a.m., a 911 call came in after shots were fired near Lougheed Highway and 221st Street.

A man in his late 40s was found in the front yard of a home with a bullet wound to his arm.  Police say the victim, who is known to police, is not co-operating with investigators. There have been no arrests.
