Poll: Eighty-four per cent of Canadians think the Games will lose money

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A Harris Decima poll claims 84 per cent of Canadians think the 2010 Olympic Winter Games will lose money.  That number jumps up to 90 per cent if you ask someone in B.C.

The pollster feels the legacy of the 1976 Montreal Olympics has given Canadians a negative impression of the Games, even though the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary managed to turn a profit.

Only three per cent of Canadians feel this month’s Games could break even and a whopping 90 per cent of British Columbians polled think we’ll be stuck in the red.

The poll also showed Canadians see winning the gold medal in Men’s Hockey is more important than Canada topping the overall medal rankings.
