New media helping people keep in touch with Olympics

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Television, radio, and new media…all are playing key roles in how the world is watching the Olympics.  Timo Lumme from IOC TV and marketing services says 3.5 billion people (half the world’s population) have tuned into the Vancouver Olympics.

But Lumme says the way they’re tracking the games has changed radically since the last Winter Games in Turino. “In fact we now have the same amount of hours globally covered on digital media–internet and mobile–as we have on the old media–broadcast.”

The IOC says 97.8 per cent of Canadians have experienced the Olympics through the broadcast consortium News1130 belongs to, which includes CTV, TSN and Rogers Sportsnet and our various websites.  The Games have also been covered in Canada in 22 different languages.
