Day 13: Canada’s medal hopes

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Five chances for Canadians to get on the podium today. We could even get more than one medal, in the same event.

Canada’s Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse set, then broke, track and start records to lead after two heats in women’s 2-man bobsled. Helen Upperton and Shelley-Ann Brown, in the Canada 2 sled, sit in fourth just 0.02 seconds out of a medal position. (Event time: Third run at 5:00pm, fourth at 8:00pm)

Clara Hughes is expected to hang up the skates after the Long track 5000m event today. She’s the defending gold medallist and teammate Kristina Groves was 3rd overall in the last year’s World Cup. (Event time: 1:00pm)

After Monday’s admirable fourth place finish, the men’s cross country team is in the 4 by 10k relay – an event they came 5th at the World Championship. (Event time: 11:15am)

Four Canadian women take to the hill in the Giant Slalom, though a medal here would be a surprise. (Event time: First run 10:00am, second run 1:15pm)

While there are no medals available, hockey continues with four quarterfinal games, including Canada meeting up with Russia.  The other three are Czech Republic vs. Finland, the Swedes and the Slovaks, and USA facing the Swiss.
