StatsCan projects Canada to become more ethnically diverse

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If Canada’s strength lies in its diversity, our country is expected to become even stronger in the years to come. That’s part of the latest population projections from StatsCan.

According to Ottawa, up to one-third of Canadians will be of a visible minority by 2031, with the greatest differences noticeable in the country’s major centres.  The minority will become the majority in places like Toronto where 63 per cent of the population will be of ethnic origin, compared with 59 per cent in Vancouver, and 31 per cent in Montreal.

The foreign-born population is also expected to be the fastest rising demographic as StatsCan predicts it will grow four-times faster than the rest of the population, reaching up to 12.5 million in 2031 and of those, more than half are expected to be born in Asia.
