B.C. Trucking Association not worried after nine commercial trucks pulled

COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – The B.C. Trucking Association isn’t flinching over an RCMP road inspection in which nine out of twelve commercial vehicles randomly pulled over were taken off the road.

The numbers might sound outrageous, but the Association says the majority of drivers do abide by the law — there are just a few bad drivers and companies giving the industry a black eye.

Coquitlam RCMP Sgt. Dave Stewart agrees.  “We believe that the majority are professional in nature and they do what’s required to meet all the safety standards.”

Association President Paul Landry doesn’t want to offer solutions for what he feels is an isolated problem, but agrees strict penalties and consequences should be severe for those who break the law.  “It happens far too often, you can quote me on that.  I don’t think it should happen at all.  Clearly what we’re doing to solve the problem today is insufficient because it keeps happening time and time again.”

Landry expects the province will soon announce changes to truck safety regulations and inspections.
