VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Living rooms, office towers and government buildings went dark later to mark Earth Hour. The initiative, which goes from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., is to conserve energy, reduce green house gas emissions and to raise awareness about climate change.
Corporate Chef Robert Clark says eateries like Raincity Grill, C and Nu Restaurants served by candlelight. “We’ve been turning the lights out in the kitchen as well, making it a bit more challenging for the chefs and they like it. It’s a lot of fun.”
Clark adds they dished up a raw menu for a week, meaning nothing is cooked. Vegetables were seasoned with salt, sugar or other spices, while fishes and other meats will be marinated, ceviche or dishes like steak tartare will be served.
The global campaign began in Australia in 2007. In Vancouver, the iconic sails at Canada Place went dark while along with the Halifax Harbour Bridges and Toronto’s CN Tower.
