Post Olympic help for Haiti

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – $125,000  worth of medical and dental supplies left over from the Vancouver Olympics will be shipped out to help earthquake victims in Haiti.  Over 900 kilos of equipment including surgical instruments, bandages and braces are headed to the earthquake stricken country as part of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Truce program.

The medical supplies will be provided to Canadian Medical Assistance Teams (CMAT) who have been providing on the ground medical support in Haiti since the devastating earthquake there on January 12th.  The first of four shipments leaves this weekend, the rest of the supplies will be sent as they’re needed by Canadian aid teams.

VANOC CEO John Furlong says it’s the kind of legacy the Games are proud to share.  Earlier this month, VANOC and its partners announced a $300,000 donation to UNICEF to help out in Haiti.
