B.C. doesn’t improve Earth Hour numbers for the second year in a row

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Earth Hour numbers are in and some may find them disappointing.  The province of B.C. did not improve its energy savings for the second year in a row.

B.C. Hydro stats show the province saved about one per cent, almost the same as last year but not as good as 2008 when we doubled that.

The village of Hartley Bay put us all to shame, by shutting down their entire community with savings of a 100 per cent.

David Helliwell with Pulse Energy says as far as local landmarks — GM Place was a big winner, by saving 58 per cent during the hour-long campaign, compared to what they would have normally used on a Saturday night when it’s not a game night.

To reflect the difference we could make, he adds that if everyone in the world reduced their consumption by 43 per cent for an hour every day for a year, we could take the Canada Line to the sun and back 421 times.
