New emission standards to be announced

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Canadian and U.S. governments are about to get a whole lot tougher on the emissions coming from your car. The two countries are expected to announce the harmonizing of emissions standards Thursday. The move will force car makers to build more efficient vehicles.  CTV News reports by 2016 all new cars will have to have 25 less emissions than 2008 models. U.S. President Barack Obama has said the new requirements will save 1.8 billion barrels of oil in his country over the life of the program. Environment Minister Jim Prentice first announced the plan last April.
