Neo-Nazis blamed for arson at Abbotsford home

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – A family targeted by an arsonist on Monday in Abbotsford says racism might be involved.  The attack follows a successful counter-rally against a planned neo-Nazi march that failed to materialize last month at Braid SkyTrain station in New Westminster.

Maitland Cassia lives in the home on Old Yale Road which caught fire early Monday morning.  The victims fear it’s the work of neo-Nazis.  The occupants of the home, including the person involved in the anti-racism rally, escaped injury.  A neighbour heard the explosion and woke the family, possibly saving lives.

Abbotsford Police are giving the case a high priority because it was started by some sort of bomb with a long fuse, giving the attacker time to get away.  Constable Ian MacDonald says the family has been interviewed but at this time, investigators do not have any suspects…and they haven’t drawn any conclusions.  “Some of the implements that were used to start the fire are rather unusual. We would like to move this up the ‘food chain’, as far as priorities are concerned.”
