West End gets easy access to medical marijuana

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver’s West End is getting a medical pot dispensary next week.

It’s an unassuming little building near Davie on Thurlow in an old heritage-style house with a sign in the window that says “Medical Cannabis Dispensary.”   The open house was yesterday and the Vancouver Dispensary Society tells the Province newspaper it’ll be busy with St. Paul’s Hospital and the Dr. Peter AIDS centre next door.

One of the neighbours we spoke with thinks it’s great. “Opens people’s minds about acceptance of the use of medical treatment and in general. It makes it seem a little more friendly and comfortable.”

Medical marijuana can be used to help patients with HIV, cancer, Hepatitis-C and MS.

Four other dispensaries exist in East Vancouver, and a few weeks ago one opened in Maple Ridge. Yesterday’s open house happened yesterday as B.C.’s Prince of Pot Marc Emery pleaded guilty in U.S. Federal Court in Seattle to selling marijuana seeds to Americans. It’s part of a plea deal, where he agreed to a five year sentence that should come down August 27th.
