TORONTO/VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Remember when flowers and cherry trees were blooming in Vancouver in February? And you called or emailed your friends and family back east to gloat about our weather?  Well, the tide has officially turned.  Toronto is sweltering through a May heat wave, while it’s cool and rainy in Vancouver.

As of 3 pm ET, Toronto’s official temperature was 31 degrees, with a humidex of 37.  The forecast high in Toronto is 32 degrees.  The City of Toronto has issued a “heat alert”, and opened a number of “cooling centres” to help people beat the heat.

Temperature records fell in many parts of Ontario yesterday, with more expected today.  In fact, yesterday was the hottest May day on record in Kapuskasing, Wawa, and Timmins, with highs near 34 degrees!

By comparison, as of Noon PT, Vancouver was at 12 degrees with rain.

Enjoy it Toronto.  But remember, you still have the Leafs.
