Tips to anti-gang line up 23 per cent

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The CrimeStoppers anti-gang tip line appears to be a success.  Over the past year, the tip line has  received more than 2,100 tips–up 23 per cent.

CrimeStoppers received $250,000 from the province to enhance an anti-gang tip line, and in the past year, tips about murders, abductions, drugs and gun offences.  Solicitor General Mike DeJong says this initiative proves that people are willing to rat out gangs, if given the chance to do so anonymously, and without fear of retaliation.

The province says there has been an increase in valuable information and has helped decrease criminal activity, and reduce violence.  People now have three ways of submitting a tip–by phone, online or by text message.
