VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Lotto Max jackpot will be a lot bigger next week. Fifteen $1 million prizes were won in Ontario and across the country yesterday, but the big $50 million jackpot went unclaimed.
The total amount of money up for grabs is now at a record $95-million for the June 18th draw, making this the largest-ever pool of lottery prize money in Canadian history.
This is the second week in a row no one has claimed the big prize. The main jackpot is now at its maximum payout of $50 million. Next week there will be another draw with at least 45 $1-million dollar subsidiary prizes.
One woman we chatted with said she already knew what she would spend her winnings on. “I’ll buy a big house, I’ll go on a big trip, I’ll buy a yacht and take all my friends on a massive cruise.”
While others, were not willing to buy any tickets at all. “There is a saying, it’s like a tax on the poor, a tax on the stupid, I think it’s smarter to work for your money and not spend it on lottery tickets.”
Two people, one from Quebec and another from B.C. split the last Lotto Max $50 million draw in February while Marie Fontaine of Pine Falls, Man., pocketed a $50 million Lotto Max jackpot in November.
