Cash back rewards wanted by Canadian credit card holders

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Forget a flight to Prince George or a free iPod Nano, when it comes to credit card rewards choices, a new poll shows people would rather have some cold, hard cash.

The RBC survey suggests more than one third of Canadians prefer cash back over any other incentive. Twenty-seven per cent still want merchandise and just over one fifth use their credit card for travel awards.

A payment survey conducted by Ipsos Reid, found that more than half of Canadians hold a credit card with some type of reward program.

When it comes to paying for flights or hotels, almost 90 per cent of Canadians pull out the plastic. Fifty per cent use their credit card for dinners or filling up their car with gas. But when it comes to grocery shopping, just over half of us pull out the debit card at the cash register.
