Microsoft joins world of motion-control gaming with Kinect

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Nintendo Wii has prompted a whole new world of gaming and now Microsoft is getting on board.  We’re rounding up details about the device which was originally codenamed ‘Project Natal’.

Microsoft has chosen to unveil the Xbox 360 Kinect system ahead of the E3 Games Expo opening tomorrow in L.A.

It will be out in time for the holiday shopping season but will face stiff competition from Sony’s PlayStation Move and Nintendo’s upgraded WiiMotion Plus.

Kinect supports a hands-free interface and has some facial and voice recognition capabilities. That means it can sense you… Jumping, dancing, running, yogaing…

A Star Wars game has been demonstrated where hand gestures control your light sabre.

Most games seem to be one player only though there is a video chat to talk with fellow gamers. Early rumours peg the system at $150.
