Psycho turns 50

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho turns 50. The film has one of the most chilling scenes in Hollywood history; Janet Leigh’s Marion stabbed repeatedly in the shower, a scene that may have single-handedly driven up sales of clear shower curtains.

Norman Bates has left a lasting impression on fans like Samuel. “You freak out when you go in the shower, like, paranoid! I have hopped in the shower so many times before, why am I so scared? I pull the curtain back, I take a look around and then I hear something and I jump again.”

Graham says he’s never watched Psycho, and never will. “I’m sorry. I’m a 6’3″, 300 pound wuss who’s never seen the movie. Aaaaahhhh… I’m a little girl!”

Even Actress Janet Leigh spent the rest of her life avoiding showers. Movie historian Leonard Maltin says in 1960, Psycho was way ahead of it’s time. “No one had ever seen a movie like it before. Seeing the leading lady in just her bra and slip. It sounds so innocent today but it was a big deal then.”

“Killing off your leading lady a third of the way through the movie – killing her so intensely and brutally. It was shocking, powerful and unprecedented,” says Maltin.
