Boy dies after being hit by a semi truck in Agassiz

AGASSIZ (NEWS1130) – The 12-year-old boy who was involved in a serious accident yesterday in Agassiz has died

Yesterday afternoon a family of four was traveling south bound over the bridge in their camper van when the lid to a roof top storage container blew off. The family turned around to try and find the lid. The families 12 year old son exited the camper van on the bridge to attempt to retrieve the lid when he was struck by an oncoming semi truck.

He was airlifted to a Vancouver area hospital where he passed away late last night. The family was traveling in the area on vacation and are from Washington State.

The RCMP are extending support to everyone who is involved including the people who stopped at the scene to provide assistance. No charges are being considered at this time.

The Agassiz Rosedale Bridge was closed for several hours to allow for the investigation at the collision scene to be completed and it has now reopened.

The name of the young boy is not being released at this time.
