Quarterly HST credit for low income earners

By

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – Some relief from the Harmonized Sales Tax is on the way for working families.  The Finance Minister has introduced a new quarterly credit for low income earners.  Approximately 1.1 million British Columbians — roughly one out of four us — will be eligible for the credit.

Minister Colin Hansen says a dual-income family of four making less than $30,000 a year can expect up to $762  back — which he chose to demonstrate by filling a glass container with one dollar coins in that amount.

Hansen added that individuals earning $25,000 or less also fall under the same umbrella. “For low and modest income families they will get the benefit of this HST credit cheque.  For higher income families, the other three-quarters of British Columbians, they will get the benefit of the tax reductions that we brought in.”

Hansen was joined by members of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce but missing were Richmond’s three government MLAs — Rob Howard, John Yap and Linda Reid.

The first cheque should be mailed out starting July 5th.
