Businesses in the West End cleaning up thanks to fireworks

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s the fourth and final day of the Celebration of Light!  Crews aren’t the only ones cleaning up, so are local businesses.  For dozens of restaurant and store owners in the West End — the bottom line during the fireworks is their bottom line.

Sonja Frolek with Darchin restaurant on Davie Street says it’s a huge boost for business.  “Alcohol is all profit, as is every restaurant, so when we get people coming in just wanting to buy a shot or drink a beer really quickly then that’s all profit for us.”

She’s not alone either, as Greg Langley manages a restaurant nearby and says it’s their busiest time of year.  He says they’ll have full staffing and full security on tonight.

Langley has been in the business for nearly three decades and predicts tonight’s show will draw the biggest crowds yet.

A reminder there are many road closures for the big event.  Roads north of Cornwall Avenue in Kitsilano will shut down at 6 p.m., while most other streets in the West End will close at 7:30 p.m.

Both areas are expected to re-open by 11:30 p.m.  For all the latest keep it on News1130 for traffic updates every 10 minutes on the ones.
