B.C. ferry helps in marine rescue

TSAWWASSEN (NEWS1130) – A boat taking on water Monday evening in the waters near Point Roberts got some assistance from a number of nearby vessels, including a B.C. ferry.

The Spirit of British Columbia was coming out of Active Pass around 6 pm when a distress call was made, and the company’s Deborah Marshall says they quickly sent out a zodiac to help.  “One of our engineers was in the rescue boat and he was assisting them in pumping water out of the boat until the Coast Guard could get there.”

The boaters were able to plug the hole and pump out the water and everybody is OK.

The rescue did make the ferry about 25 minutes late.
