A well paying job doesn’t equal happiness

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Go in with your eyes open!  That’s the advice for anyone going into what are considered some of the worst professions.  Folks looking for a little flash, fame, or fat paycheques should be prepared for the grueling reality of their chosen professions.

One career coach tells the Globe and Mail people often set themselves up for misery by having unrealistic expectations.  Lawyers are some of the unhappiest workers once they hit all the paperwork, analytical work and long, long hours.

CareerCast’s 2010 list of the worst jobs include oil rig roustabouts, loggers, ironworkers, dairy-farmers and welders — they are all underpaid and over-stressed.

However, the career coach says he gets complaints from some people asking why their job is on the list.

For instance, there’s the logger who said it’s great — the job is outdoors, physical, he’s two years without a major accident and he doesn’t even miss the two fingers he lost on his left hand.
