Aquilini Investment Group wants to build rink near Rogers Arena

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Aquilini’s want it and neighbours want it, but the City of Vancouver?  Not so much.  The Aquilini Investment Group confirms it has put up an offer to build an ice rink near Rogers Arena and pay to run it in perpetuity.

The Globe and Mail reports the developer would use the “community-benefit fees” it has to pay to fund the facility.  The Vancouver Canucks, owned by the Aquilini’s, would use it as a practice facility during the mornings.  The public could skate there the rest of the time.

However, the newspaper reports city planners and the Park Board aren’t too excited about the offer.  They want the developer’s fees to go to improve the central library and the Burrard Aquatic Centre.
