Survey: Canadians poised to go online to do back-to-school shopping

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Instead of hitting the malls this year, many people will be doing their back-to-school shopping online. And men will be reaching for their credit cars more than women, according to Visa Canada.

The company says between now and Labour Day, men will spend almost twice as much online as women. It would be the first time men outspend women using the Web.

Stephanie Wallatt with Visa says one reason why male parents and students could be racking up the bigger bills is they’re more into the big ticket items.

“Men tend to buy more electronics which have a higher average ticket price than clothing or books,” she points out. The average person will shell out $620 this year on back-to-school supplies.
