The smoke from B.C. wildfires reaches the Prairies

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s hard to believe winds have pushed the smoke from B.C. wildfires halfway across the country, but there is good news in the forecast for people in the Prairies.

Environment Canada meteorologist David Jones says all it took was a steady, blowing wind to push that pea-soup like haze as far as Manitoba.

Jones says the winds should change this weekend, and the smoke will go back to being a ‘B.C. only’ problem. “Starting in Alberta, it looks like the wind will shift around to the southeast which should help clear things out.  There’s also some weather heading their way, so some showers will clear the air at least by Sunday.”

As far as B.C. goes, there is rain in the forecast for this weekend which should help firefighters in the Interior, but it’s not enough to make a significant dent in the wildfires.
