Smoke from B.C. wildfires starts to retreat over western Canada

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Forecasters say the smoke from B.C. wildfires that has blanketed western parts of the country over the past few days should continue to slowly clear.

Environment Canada meteorologist John McIntyre says low-pressure systems in B.C. and Montana are beginning to shift the winds. “Most places in the Prairies have been getting kind of a northerly flow rather than a westerly one. So that will clear up the air, it will bring some cloud and rain, but it will clear up the smoke.”

McIntyre says the rain probably won’t be enough to help the fire situation. But he says cooler temperatures and fewer lightning strikes are in the forecast, which he says should help keep things from getting worse.
