Elvis is back in town

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Long live the King!  Tonight the PNE is hosting its annual ‘Evening with Elvis.’

Legendary DJ Red Robinson shares some of his memories of the King and his 1957 Vancouver concert.  “When we were at Empire Stadium looking out at 26,000 people, I was a kid with knees wobbling.  I mean it was unbelievable to bring him on and to do that.  It’s just amazing.  Out of the whole tour of North America, Vancouver had the biggest turnout.”

Red says Elvis was the real deal.  “You look back in those days and you had to have talent.  Elvis sounded on-stage just like his records.  I mean, he was a pro.  Today, you can make people sound fantastic, even guys like me who can’t sing, technically.  But it was an amazing thing that he sounded just like his recordings.”

Robinson will be joined by Presley’s best friend Joe Esposito while award-winning tribute artist Stephen Kabakos will sing hits from Presley’s Vegas Era.

Everything will get underway at the PNE at 8 p.m.
