White Rock mayor says the water scare was handled well

WHITE ROCK (NEWS1130) – White Rock’s mayor isn’t worried about repercussions on tourism in the city because of the E. coli scare that ended Wednesday morning.

Business has been tough for some merchants in White Rock, especially along the tourist laden waterfront during what’s still a busy tourist season. They’ve had to keep a stable stock of water bottles or disinfected water.

Mayor Catherine Ferguson acknowledges their patience. “I think that our businesses have been very innovative and creative in addressing this situation and dealing with the challenges of the boil-water advisory.”

She admits some have taken a hit – but others have fared quite well.  “I think we are seeing the two sides of it. What I am pleased about is the way we have quickly addressed the issue and continued on serving the residents and the visitors to the city.”

Ferguson says cooperation from the community helped to make the water crisis manageable.
