VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Welcome to the jungle! Drivers are being asked to be extra careful now that school is back in session. School zones around the province now have a 30 km/h speed limit from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sergeant Paul Ballard with the Vancouver Police Traffic Section says it’s a good time to review the rules of road with your kids. He says officers will be stepping up enforcement in the school zones making sure all drivers are complying with the rules.
ICBC says there are almost 17,000 crashes involving children in B.C. every year. The corporation also recommends teaching children to cross the road using marked crosswalks, make eye contact with drivers and wear light and bright coloured clothing.
