Store openings pushed back in Millennium Water neighbourhood

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – People living at the troubled Millennium Water Development in Vancouver will have to wait a few more months at least before the shopping they were promised opens in their neighbourhood. The grand opening for some of the stores in the area has been delayed at the former Olympic athletes village, where about half the units remain unsold.

They were supposed to open shop this fall, but London Drugs President Wynne Powell says slow condo sales have forced them to delay those plans by about six months. “When things get a bit slowed down, we obviously slow down the store opening to coincide with what we believe is the appropriate time to open.  Urban Fare, TD Bank and other retail services will probably open at the same time as us, in the spring of 2011, we believe.”

He says the opening could be delayed again if condo sales do not improve soon.

There are reports Rennie Marketing is planning to offer incentives to help sell more condos, possibly including paying the HST.
