CHILLIWACK (NEWS1130) – Ever wanted to catch a sockeye salmon? Given this year’s historic return, your odds have never been better.
At Chilliwack Dart and Tackle, owner Gary Wardroper says you don’t even need a boat. He recommends heading out under the Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge or trying Peg Leg. He says you can park your car and walk in.
Wardroper adds all you need is a fishing license, and the right hook with a corkie or brightly coloured wool on the end to get it up and into the fish’s face.
He says right now even kids are catching their two sockeye quota within six casts. Recreational fishermen have until September 19th, when the sport sockeye fishery closes.
