VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Plenty to do, eat and read in Vancouver this weekend!

The Autumn Shift Festival celebrates the shift in seasons as well as local eating, responsible living and urban gardening. It happens Saturday from noon until 6 p.m. on car-free Main Street from Broadway to 12th.

It’s the annual Word on the Street, Canada’s largest book and magazine festival on Sunday. Library Square and CBC Plaza in Downtown Vancouver will see authors, readings, exhibits, performances, family literacy tents and more. All events and exhibits are free.

It’s your last chance to see the Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival at Vanier Park this weekend. The 2010 season comes to an end on Saturday.

The annual Mercy Ministries of Canada 5K Mercy Walk will kick off Saturday at Second Beach in Stanley Park to support young women affected by drug and alcohol addiction.

Place des Arts in Coquitlam hosts a free Family Day on Sunday. The event is part of Canada Culture Days, a national grassroots arts and culture event that is being celebrated in every province and territory in Canada this September.

Vancouver-area break-dancers, DJ’s and graffiti artists have taken over New West, Vancouver and Surrey for the 6th annual Hip Hop For Peace Festival. It aims to promote peace through hip hop culture. The festival includes workshops on how to rap, how to break-dance and spin a record like a professional. The event runs until Sunday.
