Investing in prevention may help reduce illness

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – B.C.’s Chief Medical Officer says investing in prevention is critical if we want to become a happier and healthier province.  Dr. Perry Kendall has five points he wants the government to consider.

He wants the healthiest choice to be the easiest choice. Second, he is hoping for a re-commitment on early childhood development.  “Three, look at those provinces and territories that have committed to poverty reduction to see if we can create a made in B.C. program.  The fourth recommendation is to further strengthen public health series provided by British Columbia’s health authorities.”

Kendall adds the British Columbia Medical Association and other organizations need to continue to work together to build a primary-care system to deal with chronic disease management and prevention.
