Vancouver women’s group calls court decision disappointing

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A Vancouver womens group says it’s incredibly disappointed by an Ontario court decision to strike down Canada’s prostitution laws.

Daisy Kler with Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter calls it a giant leap in the wrong direction. “This is an absolutely regressive step for women’s equality. This does not ensure the safety of women in prostitution, and I refuse to accept reducing harm. I don’t want harm reduction, I want no harm at all.”

Kler believes the decision gives a green light for men to buy, sell, and pimp women without fear of consequence. She’s hoping for a successful appeal, and is urging the Feds to consider the Swedish stance on prostitution, where men who pick up women in the sex trade are considered offenders.
