New nasal spray to fend off H1N1

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Flu season has arrived, and many people have horror stories about the way the H1N1 vaccine was rolled out last year.  However, you can now protect yourself against the swine flu and the regular flu, just by taking something similar to a product like Dristan.

Dr. Don Low, head of microbiology at Mount Sinai Hospital says people can look for FluMist.  “It’s a vaccination that you use by spraying it in your nose and that way for some people who really don’t want to get a shot, it’s another way to get vaccinated.”

He adds the nasal spray is just as effective as getting the needle.  “In fact, it’s probably more effective for young children. It causes them to have a few sniffles for a couple of days, but that’s it. Then they’re well protected for the whole season.”

There is a catch, you’ll have to get it through your family doctor, and you’ll have to pay for it.
