VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A man is probably lucky to be alive, after Vancouver Police say he threatened two of their officers with a weapon.  The VPD calls it a dramatic situation in which the members had guns drawn.

Constable Lindsey Houghton says the officers were trying to stop a domestic dispute at a home near 41st Avenue and Clarendon Street, when an unrelated man approached them.

At first, they asked the man what he wanted – until they saw him holding a knife.  “As the two constables tried to calm him, he suddenly lunged and tried to strike and slash one of the officers.”

The officers attempted to Taser the man, but that didn’t work.  With police guns drawn, the man eventually backed down and was arrested.

Charged with assaulting a peace officer and assault with a weapon is 38-year old Quoc Tuan Nguyen from Surrey.

The officers were not hurt.
