Health Canada warns consumers about Brazilian Blowout

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Women who get Brazilian Blowout Solution at high-end salons are being told the smoothing and straightening treatment could hurt them.
Health Canada has issued a warning the solution made by Brazilian Blowout of California contains 12 per cent formaldehyde, but the chemical is only allowed in cosmetics at less than 0.2 per cent when used as a preservative.
Consumers have complained of burning eyes as well as breathing difficulties. There was also one report of hair loss associated with use of the product. Formaldehyde is a known irritant and linked to cancer when inhaled over a long period of time.
Brazilian Blowouts can cost hundreds of dollars.
